The world seems to tremble in the wake of his footsteps as Reiner walks towards the huge, looming wall, his steps purposeful, an accumulation of endless hours of training. The wall casts a heavy shadow on him. He can see ants (people) scrambling at the base of the gate as he readies himself. His foot digs deep furrows into the ground before he launches himself forward. He charges towards the thick gate like a bull, but distantly he knows that the thick stone won't hurt him. This is his duty, after all. This is what he was trained for. (by who?) His shoulder hits the thick stone, the impact a dull thud against his armour and then he is through, stone cracking and giving away under his assault. The little ants (people) scatter under his feet, get crushed underneath him, underneath the rumble. Reiner throws back his head and roars his triumph, thick steam billowing out of his mouth. The wall has fallen.

His opponent is blurry, an ache building behind Reiner's eyes each time he tries to focus on him. There are game pieces on the board between them. His are black, his opponent's white. There are a lot more white pieces than black pieces. His opponent moves a piece, a trap. Checkmate. He sounds genuinely apologetic. Reiner feels himself laugh, tipping over his king goodnatured. "I just can't beat that brain of yours."

Reiner doesn't know the dead (should he?) or the people moving the bodies (but he is one of them, right?). His chest and head feel heavy, tired, wrung out, exhausted. He helps someone lift a body onto one of the carts-- half a body (where did the other half go?) There is someone nearby (who?), not moving bodies, not moving carts, just apologising. He's very tired.

Reiner can hear himself howling, beast-like, as he covers his face with his hands, his fingers curving against the gaping holes where his eyes were. There's no blood pouring from the holes, only steam, thick, billowing, seeping out between his fingers and the thought quick, focus, focus on the right one first rises in his mind, in the mire of pain and panic. Before he can though, something lodges over the back of his neck and explodes and suddenly he feels vulnerable, so vulnerable. He's not supposed to feel vulnerable, they're not supposed to be able to hurt him. (why do they want to hurt him?) Fear rises to a pitch as he tries to pull his hands away from his ruined eyes, to his neck, but he's too slow, too sluggish. His heart pounds when something lodges in the vulnerable flesh at the back of his neck once again, and the next explosion rips through his flesh, rips through hi-- No, wait. I'm not--

Reiner doesn't know who the foot belongs too, but oddly, he doesn't feel irritated. More resigned. He must like this person. Another foot comes and nearly kicks him in the throat before lodging underneath his chin. The resignation strengthens. He twists one arm up, wrapping it around a pair of long legs, pinning them down in what feels like a very familiar move. Inexplicably, the thought 'it'll be another sunny day' rises to the top of his mind.
