CHARACTER INFORMATION

True name: Reiner Braun
Given name: Janus -
Canon: Attack on Titan
Canonpoint: Chapter 76 - Thunder Spear.
History: Here

Personality:

At first glance, Reiner Braun seems to embody every trait of the ideal soldier. At 6'1" and 210lbs, Reiner strikes a physically imposing figure, often towering over his fellow trainees. It's not just looks alone though. At the completion of their training, the whole training group gets ranked, with the ten best trainees of the year having the privilege of transferring straight into the Military Police (the most desired branch of the military). In this ranking, Reiner came in second, outdone only by Mikasa.

Reiner is not all brawn though; he's also been stated to be one of the most academically inclined members of the 104th training division and one of the few who could go up against Armin in chess. In addition to this, Reiner's responsible and caring nature often had naturally falling into a leadership role, taking care of the other recruits, such as the time he offered to carry Armin's pack for him during a gruelling training run. As such, he quickly gained the admiration and trust of his fellow recruits, turning into a defacto big brother figure to everybody.

Reiner, however, is also one of humanity's greatest enemies

And as if that wasn't enough to solidify Reiner as the perfect soldier, his earnest and caring nature make him not only a good leader, but also into a big brother figure for all the members of the 104th training corps.

Sadly enough, none of this is entirely true. It however is not entirely a lie either. The best way to put is that Reiner Braun is a very conflicted character, sickened with guilt by a mission he cannot give up,

In reality, Reiner is one of humanity's biggest enemies. Five years ago, at age 12, he, along with his best friend Bertolt Hoover, launched an attack on Wall Maria, the outermost of the walls protecting humanity from the titans.

Powers:

Reiner is a titan shifter. This means that in addition to his human form, he can also change into a titan.

As a human, Reiner has extraordinary, controllable healing. He's able to quickly heal (as in, practically instantly heal cracked bones) massive injuries and can even regrow lost limbs within a few hours. The healing is controllable, and can not only be focused on one particular injury (to heal that injury more quickly) but can also be completely suppressed, which allows him to blend in as a human. When he uses his healing, steam will rise from the wound.

Additionally, because Reiner is a titan, he only has one true weakness even in human form: the back of his neck. A titan shifter, much like a titan, can only be killed by severing the spinal cord at the back of the neck. Reiner, however, has also displayed the ability to shift his brain functions into the rest of his body given enough warning, allowing him to survive even partial decapitation.

As a titan, Reiner can assume the form of the Armoured Titan. In this form, he's fifteen meters tall (50 feet), and covered from head to toe in thick armoured plating. Due to this plating, the Armoured Titan is one of the most durable known titans, capable of withstanding even the full impact of the Colossal Titan falling on it. His armour is also thick enough that it cannot be sliced open with a sword, safeguarding him from attacks with the 3DMG. Reiner's titan form is also incredibly strong, capable of smashing through thick gates and even of picking up and throwing around other titans.

However, Reiner's titan form also comes with some big draw backs. Due to his armoured plating, he is not particularly fast or agile. He can best be likened to a bull: great at charges, but don't ask him to dance ballet. Reiner can increase the speed of his titan form by destroying the armoured plating at the back of his knees and ankles, but this leaves them vulnerable to attack, so he only does this when pressed. As with any shifter, Reiner is not capable of sustaining his titan form indefinitely. After using his form, he requires time to rest. Pushing beyond his limits can result in either an incomplete (and usually substantially smaller) titan form or even fusing too deeply with the titan and losing himself within it.

In addition to these powers, Reiner also has a number of trained abilities from his time in the 104th. These include proficiency with the 3DMG, hand-to-hand combat, first aid skills, ability to use rifles and canons, and a host of basic wilderness survival skills. Reiner ranked second in his year, which speaks of his skill.

Job: Factory worker (if placed in the Abandoned factory); General field work
Dream:

When Reiner wakes, he's in the dark. Before he can start wondering about where he is and what he is doing here, he hears the footsteps. They are slow and measured, nearing him, and soon he can see the outline of a figure walking towards him. Everything seems to grow lighter and he realises with a start that he's staring at himself. Another pair of footsteps sounds from behind him and he turns his head in the direction of the noise. Another figure approaches, another him. Though where the one in front of him is wearing a uniform of sorts, this one is dressed down in casual clothes. They are carrying identical swords and a look of determination, but where the soldier's expression is tinged with what almost feels like a higher purpose, the other's expression is merely resigned, self-loathing, and suddenly Reiner wants to be anywhere but here, anywhere but trapped between these two spectres.

He takes a step back. The ground underneath his foot squishes and Reiner jerks his head down, biting down on a scream. Corpses. He's standing on corpses. Men, women, and children, all obviously dead, staring at him in silent accusation. There's blood on his boots, his legs, his arms. He knows it is not his own.

"I am"

The words have him looking up. The two spectres have come to an halt, a sword's length away from each other, with him caught in between. Yet, they don't seem to see him. Their eyes (his eyes) stare straight ahead, staring only at the other as they raise their swords in unison, ready to strike. He can't run. He's caught in between, trapped on this mountain of corpses. When the spectres charge at each other, their swords run him through simultaneously, one through his chest, the other through his back. The last word of their shout is garbled to his ears, overlapping words he is not able to make out.

He wakes with a start, shivering.
